About This Spot
Stepping into Hanoi on King Newtown feels like a brief escape to the vibrant streets of northern Vietnam, tucked away amid the eclectic buzz of King Street. The pace here is unhurried yet energized, as conversations mix with the soft hum of instrumental music, creating an atmosphere that’s both inviting and alive. It’s a spot where locals and visitors gather with a shared appreciation for honest, heartwarming flavors and a genuine, warm welcome.
The space itself carries a casual, no-frills charm — where the focus is clearly on the meal and the moments shared around it. The absence of elaborate fanfare lends the room an intimate, almost homey feel, occasionally lively and full during busy evenings, making it a place that encourages connection over good food.
The menu is a thoughtful reflection of northern Vietnamese culinary traditions, offering dishes that gently balance freshness and depth. Expect to find comforting bowls of steaming pho with tender slices of beef or vibrant, herb-filled vegetarian options. Each plate seems crafted to invite slow enjoyment, whether it’s the crispness of freshly rolled rice paper rolls or the subtle bite of pickled garlic that lingers softly on the palate. Drinks mirror this care—smoothies and house-made iced teas arrive as refreshing little moments amid the rich flavors.
There’s a distinct sincerity in the hospitality here, with staff who navigate the ebb and flow of service with a personal touch that makes you feel seen and at ease. The unassuming atmosphere encourages lingering over shared plates and conversations, making Hanoi on King a place where the ritual of dining becomes a quiet celebration of culture and comfort in the heart of Newtown.

Emmm you can order this pungent crab and snail noodle soup here which would repel other patrons and flies. Plenty of salted snails and beef slices. The use of tomato wedges was a bit strange to me.

The drinks are 100/10! Highly, highly recommend. Pineapple juice and berries frappe were amazing. The server forgot my drink and we were the only ones in there… so I didn’t love that. The food was above average. I had the bun tron. Love the instrumental music. Added a nice ambience to this place.

I love the food and the hospitality from the owner. Lovely and authentic northern Vietnamese food that hardly can be found in Australia ( at least from my journey from Brisbane to Sydney). Will introduce this place to my Aussie friends and Vietnamese friends stay in Australia and those are coming to visit Australia as well. You will not regret it.

Best Vietnamese food in Sydney. Crispy chicken skin and juicy inside and mixed noodles are very yummy. Everything else is very good, can't complain about anything.

This unassuming place in the busy Newtown offers authentic northern Vietnamese style foods. The place was all packed during a Sunday dinner but lucky we got to secure the last available table. I would recommend you to reserve in advance especially if you come in groups. Nice ambience but could be quite loud during peak hours. No fan/ac was turned on so that night our dining experience was humid and a tad hot. Food came quickly after we placed our orders and it has a good portion size. Bun rieu oc (snails vermicelli soup) surprisingly has a strong and pungent shrimp paste smell and taste which is authentic. Bun dau mam tom (vermicelli salad with fried tofu, young green rice patties & boiled pork dipping in shrimp paste sauce) also offers a traditional flavours to the plate. Nice experience overall but taste is a bit too salty for my preferences.

Little place in Newtown serving some real tasty and authentic Vietnamese fare. The place was teeming during Sunday lunch time, but we managed a table somehow. Service was no-nonsense and quick. No time for put on niceties. We tried the Pho Ga (Chicken noodle soup), the Pho Bo Sot Vang (red wine beef soup) and the spring rolls. Delicious. The red wine beef noodle soup was a revelation. The portion sizes are massive and you don't need to take out a bank loan to feast here.

The food here is great - we’ve come back a few times and tried different dishes, and everything has been delicious. Prices are reasonable too, especially for the location Since it’s a family-run place, there can be a bit of a wait during the dinner rush, but the staff are always really polite If you’re after authentic northern Vietnamese pho, this is definitely the spot - easily one of the best around

Bun bo hue was delicious, with home made chilli sauce available at the table. Staff are super lovely and attentive. Great spot in Newtown!
